Würzburg - Early February

We had a GREAT time in Early February in Würzburg, where John spent a few years when he was a teenager. His dad, like mine, was in the Service, and was stationed in Würzburg for three years from '77 to '80. We took off on Saturday morning and saw Würzburg's Kappelle (Chapel), the Fortress, and a beautiful Benedictine Abbey about 2 miles south called Großcomburg. On Sunday, we went to Schwäbisch Hall, where some pretty spooky figures were out - probably for Fashing (a.k.a. Carnivale or Mardi Gras...) Spectre was one...wet...dog...and my hair was frizzing to oblivion.

The Residenz...we couldn't take a camera inside...and it was a punishment. What an incredible place. The furniture inside...I wished for a camera just for IDEAS. Absolutely gorgeous. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice gate at the Fortress...with a lovely black dog sitting at its feet... Hi, Handsome... Oh, and you, too, John - but seriously - check out that Fortress...

The dome of the Kappelle...it was a cold, wet, gloomy walk to the site, but once we were inside, we saw how much it was worth it...

He wanted to JUMP in...complete LABRADOG.

What a beautiful view, huh? The church (this vantage point) sits atop 53 steps with an octagonal porch. This is the Marktplatz:

And what a Beautiful, Beautiful Boy he is...

Some weird Fashing Folks...

Cool little face - the gargoyles in Europe are amazing. Those of you who know my brother, Armour - we collect them for him. We really liked this picture at the Abbey in Großcomburg.

The Cloisters. The best I've ever seen were in Mont St. Michel, in France - but these were pretty beautiful, too.

The view from the car...it was a long walk up!

Cool shot that (of course) John took. You've got to have an eye for these things...

Großcomburg - pretty, huh?
